The second pair of hands

MCP time tracking for your agents

Connect Claude, Cursor or any MCP client to Kairos and your agents keep their own time, against your clients and marked as theirs, and read the ledger: what’s unbilled, what’s been paid. Agents don’t count as seats.

Setup

Three steps, about a minute

The connector’s address:

https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp

  1. I

    Add the connector

Paste the connector’s address into your client — the exact steps for Claude Code, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and VS Code are below. It speaks Streamable HTTP with OAuth, so any MCP client that takes a URL works.

  2. II

    Sign in and choose

Kairos opens and asks what the agent may do: run the timer, help with invoices, set up clients and projects, or all three. No token to paste. A client that only takes a header can use a personal access token from Settings → Assistants and tools instead.

  3. III

    Say what you’re starting

“Start on Northwind, PR review.” The agent confirms the client and project, then rings the bell. Say “stop” when the work is done, or “log 45 minutes on the report” after the fact.

Your client

The same address, wherever you work

One remote server; each client adds it its own way. Sign in once per client and Kairos remembers the grant under Settings → Assistants and tools.

Claude Code

Run the command, then /mcp in a session to sign in.

claude mcp add --transport http kairos https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp

Cursor

Settings → Tools & MCP → Add custom MCP server, or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Cursor opens the sign-in when it first connects.

{ "mcpServers": { "kairos": { "url": "https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp" } } }

Claude Desktop and Claude.ai

Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Paste the address, then approve Kairos when it opens. The connector is on in every new chat.

https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp

ChatGPT

Install the Kairos Timer plugin from ChatGPT’s directory, from the browser you use for Kairos. It opens the consent page; allow it, then mention the plugin in a chat. Or add the address by hand: Settings → Plugins → Add → Add MCP server.

https://chatgpt.com/plugins/plugin_asdk_app_6ae3848fcbc88191bcec05f6cd5dcf53

Codex CLI

Add the server, then sign in once. Codex keeps the grant for later sessions.

codex mcp add kairos --url https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp
codex mcp login kairos

VS Code

Command Palette → MCP: Add Server → HTTP, paste the address; or put this in .vscode/mcp.json. The tools appear in Copilot’s agent mode.

{ "servers": { "kairos": { "type": "http", "url": "https://time-api-f6m3.onrender.com/mcp" } } }

The tools

A timer it can run, a ledger it can read

Each scope is yours to grant when you connect: the timer, invoicing, the workspace, or all three. A timer-only connection never sees an invoice, and nothing but the timer tools can be used without a manager’s role.

Ask your assistant

  • “What’s unbilled on Northwind?”
  • “Time report for last month, by client.”
  • “How much of the Apex retainer is left this month?”
  • “How many agent hours went into the redesign?”

What the assistant cannot do

  • Email an invoice itself. Marking one sent hands it to Stripe, and it asks you first.
  • Show money to anyone but owners and managers. A member’s connection sees hours.
  • Edit or delete time that is already on an invoice. Take the line off the draft, or void the invoice.
  • Log time as someone else, invite people, make tokens, or move money.

Everything else waits for your yes, except stopping the timer. It acts as you, in one workspace, and only within the scopes you granted; every hour it logs is marked as an assistant’s wherever hours appear.

Who it’s for

The agency

Agent hours, billed honestly

Five people and the agents they run, on one Pro subscription. Each agent’s session lands against the client it worked for, priced at the project’s rate and marked as an assistant’s, so you can see what the agents did before it goes on the invoice. Agents don’t count toward the 5 members.

The solo developer

Claude Code sessions, on the clock

Connect it once. “Start on Northwind, PR review” at the top of a session and “stop” at the end, and the hours are in the ledger without leaving the terminal. The note says what the session did.

Anyone, mid-afternoon

“What am I working on?”

Ask the assistant you already have open. It reads the timer and tells you what’s running and for how long, or reminds you that nothing is.

“I use Kairos every day. Part of it is laziness: Claude starts the timer, so I don’t have to remember. The bigger win is my clients’. The time is tracked to the minute instead of rounded up from memory, which saves them money, and every entry says what was actually done. They pay knowing what the hours bought.”
